As a Community Caretaker at Hafod, you’ll be a visible and trusted presence across our communities, helping to make sure our estates are safe, welcoming, well-maintained and a place residents are proud to call home.

You’ll work directly with residents, colleagues and contractors, responding to issues, carrying out inspections and basic repairs, and helping keep communal areas and outdoor spaces looking their best. You’ll play an important role in spotting problems early, improving the environment and making sure residents receive a responsive, high-quality service.

This is a full-time role, joining our regional team in Cardiff, Torfaen and Newport, with some flexibility required to meet the needs of our communities. You’ll also need to be able to attend occasional evening meetings and participate in on-call support when required.

This role is a field based role that involves travelling independently across our sites and services in the Cardiff region as part of your day-to-day duties. You’ll need to hold a full, valid driving licence.

If you use your own vehicle for work, you’ll also need appropriate insurance (for example, business use).

What you’ll be doing

• Inspect communal areas and estate environments, both inside and outside, identifying issues such as litter, damage, obstructions, fly-tipping and other environmental concerns, and keeping accurate records including photographs.
• Carry out basic repairs and maintenance where appropriate, and report or escalate more complex issues to the relevant teams, contractors or surveyors.
• Work closely with residents, Housing and Communities colleagues and service contractors to resolve issues, follow up repairs and help make sure services are delivered to a high standard.
• Help maintain safe, clean and welcoming communities by managing environmental issues such as bin stores, graffiti, dog fouling, fly-tipping and waste, while promoting recycling and responsible use of communal spaces.
• Monitor communal facilities, services and contractor activity, supporting wider estate improvements and helping identify where residents may need additional support or adaptations.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone practical, proactive and people-focused, who takes pride in their work and enjoys making a visible difference to the communities they support.

• Practical experience of repairs, maintenance or property inspections, with the ability to carry out a range of basic repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Good communication and people skills, with the confidence to build positive relationships with residents, colleagues and contractors, including in challenging situations.
• A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and know when an issue needs to be escalated.
• Good IT skills, including experience using systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to keep clear and accurate records.
• A positive, adaptable attitude and pride in maintaining high standards, with a genuine commitment to providing a professional, responsive service to residents.

We deliver neighbourhood management, repairs, tenancy sustainability, financial and digital inclusion, community engagement and estate services alongside specialist extra care housing.
