This is a Temporary, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

Here for people. Here for communities. Here for you.

What is the role?

Make a difference every day as a HR apprentice at Hafod.

Start a new chapter at Hafod, whether you’re leaving education, returning to work, or looking for a career change.

As an HR Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience across a range of People and Culture functions while working towards a nationally recognised qualification in Human Resource Management. You'll contribute to meaningful work that supports our colleagues across Hafod, helping us create a positive workplace culture where people can thrive.

Please note: We're unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. This is a 24 months full time (37.5 hrs) programme that will begin in January 2027.

What you’ll learn and how we’ll support you :

  • You'll work towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Human Resource Management with one of our trusted apprenticeship training partners.
  • You'll gain practical experience across a variety of People team functions, including HR Operations, Culture and Inclusion, Resourcing, Learning and Development, and Reward and Systems.
  • You'll learn through hands-on experience while working alongside supportive and knowledgeable HR professionals.
  • You'll benefit from coaching, mentoring and regular development conversations to support your growth and career aspirations.
  • You'll take part in our Early Talent Development Programme, joining a network of apprentices and colleagues across Hafod.

This role involves regular travel across our sites and services. While a driving licence isn’t essential, many of our locations are not easily reached by public transport, so being able to drive and use your own vehicle is often the most practical way to travel.

If you use your own vehicle for work, you’ll need appropriate insurance (for example business use).

If you don’t hold a licence or don’t have access to a vehicle, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re happy to have a conversation with you about how you could still meet the travel requirements of the role.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the People team with key HR processes, including maintaining colleague records, Right to Work checks and DBS compliance.
  • Learning how to use HR systems and updating colleague information accurately and confidentially.
  • Supporting People-related projects and gaining experience across all areas of the People function.
  • Assisting with meetings, taking notes and gathering information while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Acting as an ambassador for apprenticeships and supporting careers events, engagement activities and campaigns.

You can find the full job description attached for a more detailed overview of the role.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for people who share our values and are ready to learn.

You don’t need previous HR experience. What matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn and the way you work with others.

At Hafod, how we work is just as important as what we do. As a HR apprentice, you’ll:

  • Have a genuine interest in building a career in Human Resources
  • Have good IT skills, including Microsoft Office such as, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Value working as part of a team and understand that supporting colleagues is just as important as supporting customers.
  • Bring a respectful, caring approach and recognise the difference small actions can make.
  • Communicate well, with a willingness to listen, ask questions, share ideas and build positive relationships.
  • Take pride in doing things well and show a dependable, responsible attitude to both work and learning.

These strengths can come from education, work, volunteering, family or other life experiences.

Who can apply?

If you’re thinking about applying, here are a few things to help you decide if this apprenticeship is right for you.

  • You’re aged 16 or over. Some apprenticeships may have a higher minimum age where this is needed for safety or service reasons.
  • You have a minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (A*- C)
  • You’re not studying towards another qualification when the apprenticeship begins, as this programme requires strong commitment to both work and learning.
  • You do not already hold a qualification at the same or higher level in the same subject area as this apprenticeship.
  • You can start the apprenticeship in January 2027.

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, please get in touch before applying. We’ll be happy to help.

Interested in applying?

Submit your application online.

Please include details of all relevant qualifications or training in your application. This helps us check that you meet the entry requirements for the apprenticeship.

We'll review all applications and if you're shortlisted, you’ll be invited to attend one of our relaxed and friendly assessment days, followed by a final interview at  St Hilary Court, Cardiff.

If you’re successful at the end of the recruitment process, we’ll offer you the role and begin your pre-employment checks. This includes confirming your right to work and completing a DBS check, which we’ll organise and pay for.
